This is common and it forms a significant portion of the average Chinese person's basic vocabulary. It's like using a huge alphabet where many characters are abstract ideas and don't really have real applicable meanings without context, and putting characters together will often lead to words with seemingly random meanings that can have nothing to do with the characters they are composed of. And people who grew up with it write that stuff on a daily basis just fine, so I don't think the Star Wars people would have too many problems with their written script.Įdit: To the people who aren't familiar with how written Chinese works - you CAN put multiple characters together to form words the same way you put letters together to make words with the Latin alphabet. We already have written scripts like Chinese with a far larger number of far more complex characters than this.
